Houghton driver charged in crash that killed South Carolina motorcyclists

Sze Tiang

HOUGHTON, MI— The Houghton County Prosecutor’s Office is charging a woman in connection with a crash that killed two motorcyclists in Osceola Township on August 5.

According to the Michigan State Police investigation, Sze Tiang, 45, of Houghton was driving an SUV southbound on US-41 when she failed to notice a pickup truck stopped ahead of her, waiting to turn onto Golf Course Road. To avoid a collision, she entered the northbound lane of US-41 and struck two motorcyclists.

Killed were Raymond Miller, 65, and Kimberly Wooldridge, 36, both of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Miller was a native of Marenisco. Tiang and two child passengers in her vehicle were evaluated and released.

Tiang was charged Tuesday with two counts of moving violation causing death, both misdemeanors, and one count of operating with no license or expired license, a 90-day misdemeanor.

The crash remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
