Sentence handed down to former attorney who pleaded to second-degree murder in Houghton

HOUGHTON, MI— A former attorney has been sentenced for second-degree murder in Houghton County.

Evan Dixon, 62, pleaded to shooting and killing Theron Duncan in the Douglass House Saloon in November 2023. He was originally charged with first-degree murder and felony firearms, but pleaded no contest in June to second-degree murder.

Dixon was sentenced Monday in Houghton County Circuit Court to 18 to 40 years in prison.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
