Alger Max inmate death caused by strangulation

MUNISING, MI--   Officials say an inmate found dead at Alger Maximum Correctional Facility last month died of strangulation.

On May 31 an inmate notified staff that Carlos Marquis Love, 39, of Detroit had suffered a seizure and was unconscious.  Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Preliminary investigation by troopers from the Negaunee Post and the Department of Corrections indicated Love did not die of natural causes, and a suspect was identified.  A June 1 autopsy revealed Love died from manual strangulation.

Love had been serving time since 1992 for armed robbery and prisoner possessing a weapon.

The incident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
