Gwinn woman arrested for embezzling from Marquette charity

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Gwinn woman has been arrested for embezzling from the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Marquette Police say the executive director of St. Vincent de Paul contacted the department when she became aware of financial discrepancies.

A month-long investigation led to the arrest of Angie Jane Spaulding, 33, for using the business credit card to make personal purchases.  Officers say Spaulding charged more than $10,000 on the card.

Spaulding is charged with embezzlement—more than $1,000 but less than $20,000 from a non-profit or charitable organization and stealing or retaining a financial transaction device without consent.  She faces up to 14 years in prison.

Spaulding is free on bond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
