Two arrested in Ishpeming for holding, torturing women

ISHPEMING, MI--   Two women were rescued from the basement of an Ishpeming business early Tuesday after they were held against their will and tortured for more than four hours.

City Police say one of the victims was able to get to a cell phone and call 911 during the ordeal.

Officers responded Tuesday around 6:35 a.m. to The Martial Way at 112 Cleveland Avenue.  They found the women had been bound with duct tape to structural supports and physically assaulted.  The victims were taken to Bell Hospital, treated and released.

Two men were arrested without incident at the scene.  Jason David Sadowski, 43, is the owner of the business.  He’s charged with one count of homicide—solicitation of murder, two counts of torture, one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, and two counts of assault by strangulation.

Charles Leroy Cope, 65, of Ishpeming is charged with two counts of torture and one count of unlawful imprisonment.

Bond was denied for Sadowski and set at $500,000 for each count for Cope.

A preliminary exam is set for July 17th in Marquette County District Court.  The suspects face up to life in prison if convicted as charged.

The case remains under investigation.
