Police stop man in connection with fake money, arrest him for drugs

HANCOCK, MI--   An Illinois man has been arrested on drug charges in Hancock. 

State Police from the Calumet Post stopped a vehicle in Hancock around 7:40 Monday night in connection with the passing of counterfeit money in the city. 

Investigation led to the arrest of a 43-year-old man for operating under the influence of drugs.  Troopers discovered evidence of IV drug use, marijuana and an unknown powdery substance. 

A 32-year-old male passenger from Minnesota was arrested on a bench warrant out of Houghton County for child support. 

Troopers were assisted by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Laurium Police Department, Hancock Police Department, and the State Police Canine Unit.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
