Troopers arrest man with shotgun following suicide threat

SKANDIA TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Skandia man is in custody after State Police were called on a report that he had a shotgun and was suicidal.

Monday around 3 a.m. troopers responded to Yalmer Road and were told the suspect was behind a house and may have shot himself.  Troopers followed footprints to an unoccupied residence and found the 36-year-old suspect alive inside.  Police were able to talk the man out of the residence peacefully.

Investigation revealed the suspect had several outstanding warrants for his arrest and had broken into a neighboring residence.  Troopers will be seeking prosecution on several felony charges.

The man remains at Marquette General Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.  Once he’s released the suspect will be lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
