Officials looking for suspects in Eastern U.P. wolf killings

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources is looking for information on two wolf poaching cases in Mackinac and Schoolcraft counties.

The first wolf was found November 26 near County Road 468 in Lakeland Township.  Officials determined it had died of a gunshot wound elsewhere and had been dumped near the Mackinac-Luce county line.

The second wolf was also found November 26 in Schoolcraft County near Gulliver in Doyle Township.  It was part of a wildlife study, and its collar had been removed and thrown away.

Anyone with information on either poaching is asked to call their local DNR office or the Report All Poaching hotline at 800-292-7800.  A reward is being offered for tips leading to the arrest of those responsible.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
