Drug busts in Newberry net three suspects

NEWBERRY, MI--   The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team EAST has arrested three Newberry residents on a total of 18 felony drug counts at three different residences.

Detectives executed a search warrant Wednesday at 404 East Truman Boulevard and arrested a 43-year-old man for three counts of delivery of heroin on or within 1,000 feet of school property and three counts of maintaining a drug house.  A female in the house was arrested for an outstanding warrant not related to the case, and three children were removed and turned over to Luce County Child Protective Services.

A 28-year-old woman was arrested at 310 West D Avenue for three counts of delivery of Ritalin on or within 1,000 feet of school property and maintaining a drug house.

A 38-year-old woman was arrested at 312 East Truman Boulevard for two counts of delivery of morphine on or within a thousand feet of school property, two counts of an imitation substance on or within 1,000 feet of school property, and three counts of maintaining a drug house.

All three suspects were lodged in the Luce County Jail on $50,000 bonds each. 

UPSET EAST was assisted by the Luce County Sheriff’s Department, troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post, and troopers from the 8th District Hometown Security Team.
