Fake money being passed in Marquette County

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Forsyth Township and Marquette City Police Departments are investigating the passing of counterfeit $100 bills in the area.

Over the past several days the fake hundreds have turned up at several locations in both municipalities.

Township Police Chief Gordon Warchock says the bills are good quality and pass the ink pen test, but do not pass through money counting machines at banks.  The bills in question have the number 150 above the $100 number on the lower back right corner of the bill.  Also, the security feature where the $100 figure on the front of the bill should change color when moving it in light doesn’t work on the counterfeit bills.

Businesses and citizens are encouraged to take extra care in checking $100 bills they receive.

Anyone who finds a fake hundred is asked to contact police immediately and, if possible, keep the bill until police arrive.
