Police chase leads to arrest of Palmer man

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   A 25-year-old Richmond Township man has been arrested for leading police on a high-speed chase.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. a Forsyth Township Police detective tried to stop a vehicle that was southbound on M-553 between Marquette Mountain and County Road 480.  It was speeding, passing in no-passing zones, and caused a pickup to swerve off the road.

The suspect driver ignored the police lights and siren and turned westbound onto County Road 480. At M-35 a deputy and State Police trooper joined the pursuit, which continued south on M-35 and into Palmer. The driver stopped in his driveway, resisted arrest, and assaulted the Sheriff’s deputy.

The suspect was arrested for reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, and felonious assault on a police officer. Additional charges may be sought, pending investigation results.

The deputy was treated at UPHS Marquette for lacerations and released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
