Bomb threat shuts down Stephenson Schools

STEPHENSON, MI--   Police are trying to identify the person who made a bomb threat that shut down the Stephenson Area Schools on Monday.

The Eagle-Herald reports the threat was found written on a wall around 10:30 a.m. Officials issued a “code yellow” alert for potential danger outside the school building, and the Menominee County Sheriff’s Department swept the building for any devices.

Sheriff Kenny Marks said there was no immediate danger to children or teachers in the school.

Students were released around 3 p.m. Monday.

Marks says the incident will remain under investigation for some time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
