Felony suspect cuts tether, flees Sault Ste. Marie area

Chippewa County Sheriff's Office

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The Chippewa County Sheriff’s office says a drug and forgery suspect has cut his tether and left the area.

Deputies say Jeremy Marjamaa was originally arrested on meth-related charges, forgery, and uttering and publishing. A judge allowed Marjamaa to be released on a tether, but on Sunday he cut the tether and fled.

Witnesses say an older couple picked Marjamaa up. It’s unknown in the couple knowingly assisted in his escape.

Officials say Marjamaa is from the west end of the Upper Peninsula and may be headed in that direction.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or report it anonymously on the Chippewa County Sheriff’s app.
