Mackinac County man, 75, arrested on felonious assault, weapons charges

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   A Mackinac County man has been arrested for hitting another man with a gun.

Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post say the incident happened Tuesday in Marquette Township. Troopers say a 72-year-old resident had stopped to check on what he thought was a suspicious vehicle parked in the yard of an unoccupied residence. The car was actually owned by the 75-year-old property owner.

The first man left the residence, but the property owner followed and confronted him down the road. The 75-year-old then pulled a pistol on the first man. When the 72-year-old reached into his car to get his cell phone the property owner hit him twice in the back of the head with the pistol.

The victim called 911 and the 75-year-old man was arrested for felonious assault. Troopers also discovered he didn’t have a valid concealed pistol license, and the pistol had been reported stolen from Detroit in 1978.

Further charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a stolen handgun will be sought.
