Possible utility scam hitting Escanaba residents

ESCANABA, MI--   Escanaba residents are being warned about a potential phone scam involving city utilities.

The Department of Public Safety wants residents to know shut-off notices are brought to homes by a city employee or a notice is sent through the mail. The city will never ask for payment over the phone.

Police say residents should never provide personal information to unknown sources.

For questions about shut-off notices, contact the Utilities Office at Escanaba City Hall.
