Suspect in Ironwood stabbing back in Michigan

IRONWOOD, MI--   A Wisconsin man has been extradited to Michigan to face a charge of assault with intent to commit murder. 

The incident happened September 1 at the Crestview Motel on Cloverland Drive in Ironwood. Department of Public Safety officers found a man lying in the parking lot, bleeding. He’d been stabbed several times and his throat had been slit.

He was taken to Aspirus Ironwood, then transferred to Aspirus Wausau, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Benjamin Bazile, 30, of Gillett, Wisconsin fled the scene. He was arrested by a Wisconsin State trooper and lodged in the Iron County Jail in Hurley. He was brought back to Michigan, arraigned in Gogebic County District Court and lodged in the Gogebic County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.

The case remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
