Troopers find large pot grow while responding to dog complaint

THOMPSON TOWNSHIP, MI--    An illegal grow operation has been found in Schoolcraft County.

On March 13 Michigan State Police from the Manistique Outpost were notified of a “dog at large” complaint in Thompson Township. A woman said her neighbor’s dog killed one of her chickens.

When troopers went to the neighbor’s residence they saw old marijuana plants, growing materials, and empty butane cannisters around a pole barn. Officers believed the butane had been used to make concentrations of marijuana.

Troopers notified the 8th District Marijuana Tobacco Tax Team and on Monday law enforcement executed a search warrant on the property. They discovered the suspect was nearly double the allowed legal grow limit. The suspect was arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana.

The MSP Hometown Security Team, Upper Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team, and Emergency Support Team assisted in the incident.
