TikTok challenge asks kids to commit crimes, police say

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— School officials across the country are concerned about a social media trend that has students committing illegal acts.

TikTok’s Devious Licks asks kids to complete such tasks as stealing items from school, vandalizing bathrooms, jabbing girls, and baring one’s breasts in the hallway.

Brimley Area Schools Superintendent Brian Reattoir sent a letter to students’ homes, telling parents about the challenge.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department responded by saying any unwanted touching is assault, and any touching of private areas is sexual assault; images and videos of the private body parts of a person under the age of 18 is child pornography (the law applies to minors who create or possess it, as well); and any theft or damage of another person’s property is a crime.

Reattoir is asking parents to talk to their kids about the trend and how harmful it can be.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
