Mackinac Island resident charged with possession of child sexually abusive material

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI— A Mackinac Island man has been arrested for having child pornography.

The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigation led to the arrest of Matthew Bartkowiak, 27, a full-time resident of Mackinac Island.

Multiple internet-capable devices and evidence were seized from his home.

Bartkowiak is charged with four counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and ten counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material.

He faces up to four years in prison for each count of possession and up to ten years in prison for each count of aggravated possession.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
