SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— Two Sault Ste. Marie residents were arrested on various drug charges last week, following an investigation by TRIDENT detectives.
Last Wednesday TRIDENT and sheriff’s deputies tried to stop a vehicle northbound on I-75 near the county line. The vehicle accelerated, then swerved back and forth between both lanes and onto the shoulder of the highway.
The driver, identified as Matthew Sauro, 33, stopped about a mile and a half later. He was driving without a license and admitted he had suboxone on him. The passenger, Jessica Rye, 29, gave detectives a packet of heroin.
They told officers they’d thrown narcotics out the window just before the vehicle stopped. A search of the area resulted in the seizure of meth, crack cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl.
Both are charged with possession with intent to deliver meth, heroin, and cocaine, possession of fentanyl, and conspiracy to deliver all the narcotics listed. Sauro is also charged with reckless driving and driving without a license. Rye was also arrested on a local warrant.
