Police investigating school shooting downstate

Yovany Parra Mendez

DETROIT, MI (MPRN)— Officials continue searching for a motive for the shooting at Oxford High School Tuesday, which left at least three students dead.

Eleven people were hit by gunfire, including a teacher.

A 15-year-old sophomore emerged from a bathroom at the high school early Tuesday afternoon, armed with a gun, and began shooting. Sheriff’s deputies arrived within minutes after receiving a flood of 911 calls.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard says the shooter surrendered—still holding the pistol he’d used—with seven rounds remaining in it.

“When they took it from him he had a loaded firearm and he was coming down the hall. That I believe interrupted what could have been seven more victims,” he says.

Some students say they decided to stay home that day after seeing threats of violence targeting classmates at the school on social media.

Officials say they have not confirmed any such threats.
