Man jailed for domestic violence, firing shotgun into ceiling at Sawyer

FORSYTH TOWNSHIP, MI— A Forsyth Township man is in jail for threatening his girlfriend with a firearm.

Township Police were dispatched Tuesday to the 300 block of Skybolt Street. A woman had called 911 to say her son had assaulted his girlfriend and held her at gunpoint, threatening her life. The victim fled the residence and took refuge at a relative’s house. When officers arrived, the suspect—identified as Austin Brown—had found the victim and was trying to gain entry to the house.

Police determined Brown had assaulted the victim and threatened her with a shotgun. He also allegedly fired the gun multiple times into the ceiling.

Brown was arrested and charged with felony discharge of a firearm in a building, assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of felony firearms, and domestic violence. He remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

The Forsyth Township Police Department and Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office encourage any person who may be a victim of domestic violence, or knows someone who may be a victim, to reach out to law enforcement or the Marquette County Women’s Center.
