CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MI— Officials in Chippewa County say drug traffickers are selling what looks like Oxycodone, but also contains Fentanyl.

Prosecutor Rob Stratton says the drug is a synthetic version of morphine but is much more potent and has a high risk of addiction. Often cut with other substances, Fentanyl produces a heroin-like effect, but is 50 times more potent than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine.

Stratton says there’s no guarantee that what people are buying on the street is what it’s supposed to be. Unbeknownst to buyers, dealers are selling Fentanyl-laced drugs, which could result in overdose or even death.
