HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI— Two Detroit men were arrested on drug-related charges in Houghton last week.
Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team determined the suspects had been bringing large amounts of heroin into the area for several months. On Thursday the Michigan State Police Hometown Security Team made a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle after it left a residence near Atlantic Mine.
At the same time, UPSET detectives executed a search warrant at the house. They seized 7 grams of heroin worth $1,700. Initial testing indicated a presence of a Fentanyl compound in the heroin.
During the search of the vehicle and passengers, troopers recovered approximately $3,800 cash, numerous cell phones and other drug paraphernalia.
Arrested were Kellen Werdlow, 33, and Johnathon Knuckles, 28. They were charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin.
Both remain lodged in the Houghton County Jail, Werdlow on a $100,000 bond and Knuckles on a $150,000 bond.
