LANSING, MI (MPRN/AP)— Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office is confirming that she was told her name was on a list kept by the suspected killer of a retired Wisconsin judge.
In a statement, a Whitmer spokesperson said law enforcement officials informed her she was on a list of potential targets kept by the man who is believed to have gunned down retired Judge John Roemer. The list also included Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers.
McConnell is a Republican; Evers, like Whitmer, is a Democrat.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice said Saturday that 56-year-old Douglas K. Uhde is suspected of killing retired Juneau County Judge John Roemer at Roemer’s house in New Lisbon on Friday. Uhde was found in the basement of the home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He's hospitalized in critical condition.
Uhde has an extensive criminal record dating back two decades, including a case when he was sentenced by Roemer to prison.
The statement from Whitmer’s office called the development “deeply troubling” and said there would be no further comment other than “she will not be bullied or intimidated from doing her job…”
