Threat prompts lockdown of Ironwood Area Schools

Nicole Walton

IRONWOOD, MI— Ironwood Area Schools went on lockdown briefly Tuesday, due to the report of a potential threat by a student.

Officials said they take every threat seriously and move quickly to ensure everyone’s safety.

Law enforcement from several local agencies responded. They found the student who allegedly made the threat and took him into custody. After police secured the scene and concluded the initial investigation, they contacted the chief assistant prosecuting attorney. It was determined there was no immediate threat.

The incident has been forwarded to the prosecutor for review.

IAS wishes to thank all members of Ironwood Public Safety, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Hurley Police Department, Iron County Sheriff’s Department, and any other law enforcement professionals for the rapid response and efficient resolution of the incident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
