'Skimmers' targeting Menominee-area ATMs

MENOMINEE, MI— The Menominee Police Department says ATMs in the area have been targeted by an organized fraud group.

The Illinois-based scammers are using electronic devices on ATM and interactive teller machines to obtain account information—known as “skimming.”

The suspects are believed to be of Eastern European descent—possibly Serbian. They’re men in their 20s and are suspects in other bank fraud investigations in the Upper Peninsula and Northeast Wisconsin.

A description of and license plate numbers for five vehicles believed to be connected to the group is as follows:

· Gray Ford Focus—IL plate V51 9784

· Black SUV-style vehicle—IL plate EK 84207

· Tan Chevy Colbalt—IL plate EK 92934

· Silver Honda SUV—IL plate E96 3471

· Black Honda Odyssey—WA plate CGP 0585

Police say anyone who sees the scammers should immediately notify law enforcement.
