Phone scam hitting Iron Mountain restaurants

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— The Iron Mountain Police Department is investigating a scam targeting local restaurant chains.

Someone claiming to be the CEO of the company calls the restaurants and tells the employee who answers to take all the money out of the business’ safe. The employee is instructed to purchase a pre-paid credit card, expose the number on the back, and send a photo of the card to the caller.

Police say the person claiming to be the CEO has been giving the chains information that only someone who has worked there would know.

Officers are encouraging restaurants to educate their employees about the scam and report any suspicious activity.
