CHATHAM, MI— The Alger County Sheriff’s Office is looking for victims of a date rape drug.
On January 19th, deputies and Michigan State Police raided a house on West Onota Street in Chatham on a search warrant. They uncovered significant evidence of drug activity, including meth and drug paraphernalia.
Officers also found a large quantity of a drug called GBL, also called “liquid ecstasy” or “cherry meth.” It’s a common date rape drug used by a perpetrator to subdue their victim.
Use of the drug can lead to difficulty breathing, amnesia, being conscious but unable to move, and loss of consciousness, especially when it’s combined with alcohol or other drugs.
The Alger County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information from anyone who may have been affected by GBL. Deputies can be contacted at 906-387-7030.
