Pair arrested for distributing meth in Houghton County area

MACKINAC COUNTY, MI— Two people were arrested by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team earlier this month for distributing drugs in the U.P.

UPSET detectives had been investigating a 40-year-old Calumet man for the distribution of meth in Houghton County.

On November 2, detectives coordinated with the Michigan State Police Traffic Safety Team and Sault Tribal Police to conduct a traffic stop on the man’s vehicle in Mackinac County. He and a 39-year-old Atlantic Mine woman were identified in the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. Officers seized drug paraphernalia, more than $2,000 in cash, and over a pound of crystal meth.

Both suspects were lodged in the Mackinac County Jail.

Two days later, UPSET, troopers from the Calumet Post, and the Houghton County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at the suspects’ residence. Additional evidence related to the distribution of meth, firearms, and $1,500 in cash were seized.

The incident remains under investigation.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
