HOUGHTON, MI— Three people have been charged in connection with a number of break-ins and larcenies in Houghton and Keweenaw counties.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says from August through October of this year, the suspects targeted local contractors and citizens. They apparently took tens of thousands of dollars in equipment, tools, and other items.

Erick Grandchamp, 42, of Calumet and James Kilpela, 37, of Atlantic Mine are charged with conducting a criminal enterprise. Jim Statler, 34, of Houghton is charged with two counts of felony larceny, two counts of receiving and concealing stolen property, and two counts of felony habitual offender.

The ongoing investigation is also being conducted by the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post, and the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team.

Anyone with information regarding the cases is asked to contact the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office or the MSP Calumet Post.
