Parolee arrested for bond violations after he flees from Alger County deputies

LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP, MI— An Alger County man out on parole from the Michigan Department of Corrections has been arrested for failing to comply with his bond conditions.

Craig Smith was out on bond for possession with intent to deliver meth. He failed to comply with bond conditions in December and was issued several new warrants.

Friday morning, deputies with the Alger County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that Smith was at a residence in the Limestone area. Before officers arrived, Smith fled into a wooded area adjacent to the house. An Alger County K9 tracked him for nearly 1.5 miles and helped deputies arrest him on multiple District and Circuit Court warrants.

During a search, evidence was found that may lead to additional charges.

Michigan State Police and the U.S. Forest Service assisted in the incident.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
