Phone scam: City of Ironwood is not calling out-of-towners to collect on utility bills

Ironwood, MI - Ironwood officials are reporting receiving several phone calls from out-of-town residents regarding strange phone calls. According to the Ironwood Public Safety Facebook page, the individuals reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to work for the City of Ironwood and requesting payment on their delinquent utility bill.

Officials say the City of Ironwood does not call residents about delinquent bills, nor do they accept payments over the phone. These phone calls are being spoofed and appear as if they are coming from The City of Ironwood (906-932-5050), but they are not.

The City of Ironwood does not contact individuals to request sensitive information for bill payment. Officials say if you receive a similar call please do not provide any personal or payment information over the phone.
