Human trafficking sting results in the arrest of 7 in the UP

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI— The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office recently conducted a three-day human trafficking operation targeting those involved in the sexual exploitation of children and vulnerable adults.

A number of police agencies in the region assisted in the sting. Throughout the operation, investigators used a range of strategies to identify offenders and potential victims.

Seven people were arrested in the operation. One of them was also found to have outstanding warrants through Shelby Township for similar offenses.

Investigative journalist Chris Hansen and his TruBlu film crew documented portions of the effort. The Sheriff’s Office says the coverage aims to highlight both the dangers facing potential victims and the proactive work being done by law enforcement across the region.

Participating agencies included the Kingsford Public Safety Department, Iron Mountain Police Department, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Niagara Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations, which operates under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
