MSP arrests Chippewa County woman on meth, open intoxicants in vehicle charges, among others

BRIMLEY, MI— A Brimley woman has been arraigned on felony drug and obstruction charges following a traffic stop last week.

Thursday around 3:40 p.m., troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post stopped a vehicle on M-221 near Depot Street in Brimley. They apparently saw evidence of open intoxicants in the vehicle.

A female passenger began physically resisting the troopers when they investigated further. One of the troopers suffered a minor injury as she was taken into custody.

Police found open intoxicants and suspected meth in the vehicle. They allegedly belonged to the woman, identified as Melissa Lyons, 45, of Brimley. She also had a warrant out for her arrest in Chippewa County.

Lyons was arraigned Friday on charges of possession of meth, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and open intoxicants in a vehicle. She is next due in court on October 30.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
