Rock woman faces prison time for Medicaid fraud

DELTA COUNTY, MI— A Delta County woman has pled guilty to Medicaid fraud.

On Tuesday, Nicole Stouffer, 44, of Rock pled to two counts of felony Medicaid Fraud as a habitual second offender.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services approved services for Stouffer under the Home Help Program in July of 2021. She selected a family member to provide the services.

Logs purportedly verifying the home help work and the dates worked from November 2021 through August 2022 were submitted to DHHS. Approximately $8,000 was paid to Stouffer for the home help.

In November 2022, the family member allegedly providing Stouffer’s home help services made a complaint to the Department of Attorney General. The person denied having agreed to serve as a home help provider and also denied providing any of the paid-for services.

Stouffer faces up to six years in prison. Sentencing is set for December 16 in Delta County Circuit Court.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
