SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— Michigan State Police have arrested a Soo man for his involvement in a recent overdose death.

On February 20, troopers responded to a residence in Dafter Township. The 911 caller believed a woman was in cardiac arrest, but she actually had been deceased for several hours. Suspected narcotics were observed at the scene.

Investigation revealed the woman had been in contact with a local man and had purchased drugs from him. An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be a drug overdose involving fentanyl and meth.

A search warrant was executed Wednesday at the residence of Brandon Nertoli, 31, of Sault Sainte Marie. Police seized meth, prescription pills, money, and more than $4,000 in counterfeit bills.

Nertoli was arrested and lodged in the Chippewa County Jail on a $100,000 bond. He’s charged with delivery of a controlled substance causing death and with being a habitual offender.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
