Gogebic County law enforcement warns of computer 'infection' scams

scam

BESSEMER, MI— The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office is cautioning residents about responding to computer pop-ups that say their computer is infected and they need to send someone money.

Deputies have received several reports recently about such scams. They appear on internet browsers and email after you click an advertisement or bad link.

The Sheriff’s Office says, as always, never give out personal or banking information, and don’t let them have remote access to your computer. Don't let them talk you into going to the bank or wiring money to them in a manner you wouldn’t normally do.

Deputies say your relative isn't in a random jail cell and the police aren't coming to arrest you. Do not call the number they supply. Instead, call friends, family, or law enforcement for help.
