ST. IGNACE, MI— A St. Ignace man was arrested last week for stealing funds from the Mackinac County Animal Shelter.

Last July, Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace Post received a report that a person with connections to the shelter was suspected of taking money intended for the organization. Investigation revealed more than $20,000 in donations was taken and redirected to another nonprofit called the Mackinac Animal Aid Association. The suspect was the president of the association.

Last Wednesday, troopers arrested Andrew Valentine, 63, of St. Ignace and lodged him in the Mackinac County Jail. He was arraigned the next day on a charge of larceny by conversion—$20,000 or more.

Valentine was released on a personal recognizance bond. His next court date is scheduled for July 14.
