Sault Ste. Marie suspect shoots at neighbor's house, turns gun on himself

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A Sault Ste. Marie man is dead, after he shot at a neighboring residence Thursday.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police and Fire departments were dispatched around 1:40 p.m. to a house on Young Street. Investigation revealed there had been a domestic dispute and a man had fired multiple times into his neighbor’s house. He then returned to his own residence and turned the gun on himself.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

An occupant of the home that had been shot received minor injuries from glass debris. No other occupants or neighbors were injured.

The names of the parties are not being released at this time.

Assisting in the incident were Chippewa County Central Dispatch, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, the Sault Tribe Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the Chippewa County Victim’s Services Unit.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
