CRYSTAL FALLS, MI— Crystal Falls residents are being warned about a new phone scam in the area.
City officials say individuals are falsely claiming to represent the Crystal Falls Police Department, the FBI, or the U.S. Marshals Service.
They say those law enforcement agencies will never call you to demand or solicit money, and they will never instruct you to purchase gift cards of any kind. Legitimate agencies will not threaten you with arrest or other legal action if you refuse to make an immediate payment.
Officials say if you receive such a call do not provide personal or financial information, do not purchase gift cards or provide gift card numbers, do not send money or make any payment, and hang up immediately.
Residents are encouraged to share this warning with family members, friends, and neighbors—especially older adults who may be targeted by scammers.
