ESCANABA, MI-- The Delta County Prosecutor’s Office has been awarded a grant to fund a School Justice Partnership in the county.
The $58,000 comes from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. It will be used to reduce chronic absenteeism and promote equity in local education.
Officials say kids who miss more than 10 percent of school are less likely to graduate. Adults who don’t graduate from high school are more likely to end up incarcerated. The cycle is known as the “school to prison pipeline.”
The partnership will enhance efforts to reduce barriers to attending school. It will make referrals to tutoring and mentoring programs, employment assistance, medical assistance, and other services.
