Students holding March for Our Lives rally this weekend

MARQUETTE, MI--   Students from around the region will gather in Marquette Saturday to call for an end to gun violence.

The March for Our Lives rally is a “sibling march” to the Washington, DC event being led by students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Marquette march coordinator Clara Biolo Thompson says students are looking for a change.

“The purpose of the march is to say ‘enough’ to violence in our schools with gun violence and school shootings. So we’re standing up and asking legislators to please help us and just change something,” she says.

Participants will meet at the Marquette Commons at noon, then march up and down Washington Street from Front to Fourth. Following the march, a rally at the Commons will feature student speakers and voter registration.

Biolo Thompson says everyone deserves the chance to speak.

“That everybody can have a voice, no matter what side you’re on.”
