Lake State offers marijuana business degree

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   Lake Superior State University has launched a bachelor’s degree in Cannabis Business.

Officials say the degree will provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to gain meaningful employment in the booming cannabis industry. LSSU Lukenda School of Business faculty designed the program for future managers, supervisors, and business developers.

LSSU classes such as Cannabis Business Policy and Cannabis Economics focus on issues related to state, federal, provincial, and international laws.

Estimates in Michigan predict legal marijuana spending could surpass $1.3 billion in 2022 and employ almost 28,000 people. In Canada, they are estimating at least 1,700 open positions in the cannabis industry. As many as 125,000 jobs could be created in the next few years.

LSSU officials say they want to position the university at the forefront of the emerging market, and prepare the next generation of cannabis scientists and business leaders.
