NMU's Schuiling noted for education leadership

Northern Michigan University

MARQUETTE, MI--   Northern Michigan University’s provost and vice president for Academic Affairs has been named one of 35 “Notable Women in Education” by Crain’s Detroit Business magazine.

It says Kerri Schuiling’s leadership was instrumental in the implementation of two academic programs: forensic anthropology and the first bachelor’s degree in medicinal plant chemistry. NMU now has the only outdoor laboratory for the study of human decomposition in a cold-weather climate, and Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, Inc., donated $850,000 in instrumentation for a new medicinal plant chemistry laboratory.

Crain’s Detroit Business editors select those featured in Notable Women in Education Leadership based on their career accomplishments, track record of success in the field, contributions to their community and mentorship of others.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
