HANCOCK, MI-- Finlandia University is adopting a test-optional admissions policy.
Students will be able to opt out of providing scores from standardized tests like the SAT and ACT. Instead, they can be evaluated on their high school or college grade point average and rigor of previous coursework.
Dean of Students Erin Barnett says research shows previous academic performance is the best indicator of college readiness. She says test-optional policies also help build a more diverse student body, as standardized tests often fail to demonstrate the academic capabilities of some populations of students, especially minority and low-income students.
Exceptions to the test-optional policy include homeschooled and international students.
