NMU continues to wait for COVID-19 test results

MARQUETTE, MI--   The first day of classes at Northern Michigan University is Tuesday, but they will all be online-only.

The Marquette County Health Department suggested the move from face-to-face instruction when officials found hundreds of COVID-19 test results hadn’t come back from the lab.

The final day for student and staff testing was Monday.

As of Monday at 5 p.m. a total of 24 people within the NMU community had tested positive for COVID. That includes three employees, eight off-campus students and 13 on-campus students.

The Upper Peninsula saw 17 new coronavirus cases Monday. Menominee County reported six; Delta and Ontonagon counties three each; Chippewa County had two; and Gogebic, Houghton and Iron counties had one each.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
