Two threats made toward Munising school result in lockdown and police presence

MUNISING, MI— Schools across Michigan are dealing with threats since last week’s shooting in Oxford that left four people dead.

Thursday around 10:30 a.m., a hand-written threat was found in a bathroom at the Munising Middle/High School. City Police were immediately contacted, and both the Middle/High School and Mather Elementary went into lockdown mode.

Officers and school officials deemed the threat non-credible.

In a separate incident, around 11 a.m., Munising Public Schools was notified of a threat in a video a student had made. Police began an investigation into the video, resulting in a student being removed from school and released into the custody of a parent. A report will be forwarded to the Alger County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.

As a precautionary measure, Munising City Police remained at the Middle/High School for the rest of the school day, with school safety protocols in place.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
