Agriculture for Tomorrow Conference to celebrate 'scientific' farming

ESCANABA, MI— Michigan State University will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its U.P. Research and Extension Center during the Agriculture for Tomorrow Conference this month.

NMU history professor emeritus Russ Magnaghi will give the keynote address. He says the experimental farm was established in Chatham in 1899 as an attempt to create “scientific” farming in the Upper Peninsula.

“What was the best crop available for the Upper Peninsula, given the climate and the different soils across the region?”

Conference topics will include specialty crops, field crops and forage, homesteading, and livestock.

It takes place February 20th at the Heirman University Center at Bay College. For more information, click here.
