NMU cannabis conference aims to educate, promote conversation

MARQUETTE, MI— NMU is hosting the Great Lakes Cannabis Collaboration Conference next week.

The event will feature a number of panel discussions on topics like social justice and equity, regulatory and legal issues, and the science of cannabis. It will also include student research presentations and a panel featuring NMU alumni who are now working in the industry.

Steve VandenAvond is Northern’s Associate Provost for Extended Learning and Community Engagement. He says the conference will give people a chance to talk about where cannabis is heading.

“It’s really to make sure that we’re sharing information and as a community we sort of make plans on how we want to chart a path for this category. It’s not going away; that’s perfectly obvious to all of us now. It’s really to have the conversations and to learn from one another.”

The cannabis conference takes place Tuesday at the Northern Center Ballroom. All are welcome to attend.
